superplonk in second life

Monday, March 24th, 2008

what about a virtual reality filter in second life? the vision based algorithm i am using to eliminate moving objects in order to create a static backround image does not work in second life: people are not moving in second life. they are dancing without moving, sleeping or chatting.. an approach based on an opengl debugger would make more sense.

“Die Erde ist ein Irrenhaus. Dabei könnte das bis heute erreichte Wissen der Menschheit aus ihr ein Paradies machen. Dafür müsste die weltweite Gesellschaft allerdings zur Vernunft kommen.”

>> Hello.
How do you do.  Please state your problem.

reconqr

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

last semester’s topic of my course “experimental interfaces” at fh wuerzurg’s design faculty was reconqr – reconquer urban networks. the results were amazing:

HERBARIUM DIGITAL (georg reil)
an augmented reality visualization of urban network traffic projected on architecture

urbanpulse (silke hilsing)
a minimal installation for feeling the city.

klangstufen (christiane keller)
stairs act as interface for a spacial sound experience of stockholm’s city noise.

denk.mal (claudia wieser)
a large interactive installation about privacy issues at german facebook clone studivz.

urban aura (philipp hartung)
experimental protocol for the communication channel between underground metro and surface: wind and light.

sound of surveillance (dominik hoegn)
creates sound from surveillance cameras

parasite (katharina weier)
an urban parasite communication system

all progress and development was documented in the courses weblog:

architectural multi-touch application at cebit 2008

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

at cebit 2008 we are introducing instantware. it is a sub brand of instantreality for our custom interaction devices and services like the multi-touch table and heyewall, movablescreen and our mobile augmented reality applications.

the multi-touch table will be presented at BMBF booth (hall 9, b40). johannes and yvonne build a ubercool architectural application. it features several scalable plans of messe frankfurt’s new hall 11. multiple users can move and zoom these plans like you know it from other multi-touch applications.

but the key feature is the tile with a high quality 3d view of the building. they implemented the multi-touch 3d camera gestures jens and i introduced last year: you are grabbing a plan with the left hand. one finger of right hand moves the camera through the 3d model. the second finger defines the orientation of the camera. this enables incredible cinematic camera movements in 3d. when the second finger points on a certain object on the plan and the first fingermoves around it the 3d camera moves around that object while keeping it on focus.
